Residence Life Mission Statement
The mission of the Office of Residence Life is to create a residential community that supports the College’s mission and Catholic identity, and encourages academic achievement and personal growth within the community formed by the Benedictine Hallmarks. The Office strives to foster a welcoming, diverse, and supportive living and learning community which facilitates and edifies mutual respect, responsibility, integrity, compassion, and generosity as residents develop as holistic citizens.
Welcome to Belmont Abbey College Office of Residence Life.
We are very glad that you are with us and plan to be part of the Residence Life community. As our Benedictine heritage tells us through the Hallmark of Hospitality, “We strive to extend hospitality to each member of the educational community, especially to those new to the community or coming from other traditions. More broadly, we seek to cultivate curricular and co-curricular ways to recognize the needs and call forth the talents and gifts of persons of differing capacities and dispositions, of diverse races, cultures and backgrounds.”
We believe in the residential experience for all traditional-aged students. You will learn so much about yourself and others. The life skills that you will learn include better communication skills, positive relationships, how to compromise with others, and how to live a more independent life while you still have people watching out for you. The residential students make up a wonderful part of the BAC family. As a member of our family, you are encouraged to participate fully with your peers, have pride in where you live, and make it your home.
You will not hear the word “dorm” come from a member of the RL staff’s mouths. The residence halls truly need to be your home away from home. We want you to be comfortable and enjoy the halls. “Dorm” is boring and makes reference to a place to only sleep. Residence Halls imply much more. The more involved you are with your fellow residents and the Residence Life staff, the more you will get from your time in the halls. One way we assist with this is through hall programming. Programming will provide you with an opportunity to get to know your fellow residents, learn more about yourself, and help you feel more at home at the Abbey. These are your Halls, take advantage of the opportunities that are open to you.
Residential Requirement:
All unmarried, full-time students must live on campus unless they live within commuting distance of the campus with a parent or legal guardian, or they are over 22 years when they begin classes or are enrolled as an ADP student. Part-time students are generally not allowed to live on campus unless otherwise approved by the Dean of Residential Life. Belmont Abbey College residence halls are designed for traditional-age students between the ages of 18 and 24 years. For this reason and the following, the college has the following restrictions: Students under the age of 17 are not permitted to live in campus residence facilities without the written consent of their parents/guardians and the Vice President of Student Affairs. Students younger than 17 may lack the maturity and social coping skills required for community living, especially with others who are older in years. Students over the age of 24 are not permitted to live in campus residence facilities without the written consent of the Dean of Residential Life. Students over the age of 24 may reasonably be expected to be less tolerant of the noise and behavior that may accompany younger students. Residential students are required to purchase a meal plan with Belmont Abbey dining service provider, Chartwells Dining Services.

Friday, August 19, 2011. Residence Halls open for new students. Check in is from 8:00am - 12:00pm at the Residence Life office in O'Connell Hall.
Friday, August 19, 2011. New student Orientation, all new traditional students must attend.
Sunday, August 21, 2011. Residence Halls open for returning students. Check in is from 1:00-9:00 pm at the Residence Life Office in O'Connell
Tuesday, August 23, 2011. Classes begin.
Wednesday, November 23, 2011 . Halls close for Thanksgiving break at 9:00 AM
Sunday, November 2, 2011. Halls re-open from Thaksgiving break at 2:00 pm
Wednesday, December 14, 2011. Residence Halls close for Winter Break at 9:00 am *.
Sunday, January 8, 2012. Residence Halls open for check-in. New students move in between 2:00 pm - 5:00 pm; returning students check in from 2:00 pm- 9:00 pm
Monday, January 9, 2012. New student orientation.
Saturday, March 3, 2012. Residence Halls close at 9:00 am for Spring Break.
Sunday, March 11, 2012. Residence Halls open at 2:00 pm from Spring Break.
Thursday, April 5, 2012. Residence Halls close at 9:00 am for the Easter Holidays.
Monday, April 9, 2012. Residence Halls open from the Easter Holidays.
Wednesday, May 9, 2012. Residence Halls close at 9:00 am for all non-graduating students *
Sunday, May 13, 2012. Residence Halls close at 6:00 pm for graduating students.
*All students must be checked out of the residence halls within 24 hours after their last final exam. Any exceptions must have the approval of the Dean of Residential Life.
Room keys must be submitted to the Office of Residential Life prior to leaving for any break in which the residence halls are closed.
