Belmont Abbey College seeks an experienced Assistant Director of Career Services and Internships. The Assistant Director reports to and collaborates with the Director of Career Services and Internships to provide effective leadership for, and supervision of, BAC’s Career Service programs. In addition to overall leadership duties, the Assistant Director's main responsibilities are to provide direct advising to students and alumni, develop and enhance relationships with faculty and staff, and foster relationships with key employers.
Specific duties include:
- Providing career counseling for students and alumni; administering and interpreting academic major and career assessment tools; assisting students and alumni with résumé and cover letter development, job search strategies, interviewing skills, and salary negotiation.
- Cultivating and nurturing employer relationships; organizing on-campus interviewing sessions and other networking events; overseeing the online job/internship database; researching opportunities for job list.
- Assisting with the educational programs of Career Services: developing, planning, and conducting Graduate and Career Fairs, as well as workshops/seminars on career-related topics to meet the needs of BAC students and alumni.
- Serving as liaison to other departments on behalf of Career Services, including Enrollment Management, College Relations, and faculty.
- Disseminating information about Career Services; assisting with the development and maintenance of website materials, brochures, flyers, and social media.
- Generating monthly/quarterly reports; tracking interns and internship paperwork; assisting in obtaining post graduation reports; developing and implementing surveys and gathering responses, reviewing data for accuracy, analyzing and summarizing survey data.
- Performing other duties as needed and required.
Required qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in human resources management, counseling, student development, staffing, recruiting, or related area.
- At least 2 years of experience in career services, human resource management, leadership development, career or vocational counseling, placement, student personnel, student development in higher education or closely related field.
- Demonstrated success in creating and implementing educational and career-related programs.
- Strong computer skills including Microsoft Office Suite and common Internet search tools.
- Ability to solve problems swiftly and creatively while multi-tasking.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills; solid presentation and public speaking skills.
- Ability to work effectively with people from a broad range of backgrounds and life experiences; a commitment to diversity and team building; excellent interpersonal skills.
Preferred qualifications:
- Master's degree in human resource management, counseling, guidance or related field strongly preferred.
- 2-4 years of experience in career services, human resource management, leadership development, career or vocational counseling, placement, student personnel, student development in higher education or closely related field.
- Knowledge of the career development process, career planning techniques and career-related assessment instruments.
