THERESA NOLAN NAMED FIRST TEAM ALL-AMERICAN BY INTERCOLLEGIATE WOMEN'S LACROSSE COACHES ASSOCIATION
Junior Defender Earns All-America Nod For Second-Straight Year
Belmont Abbey junior women's lacrosse defender Theresa Nolan was named first-team All-American by the Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association, which was announced today. Nolan, a second-team honoree last year, becomes the first player in the program's three-year history to earn first-team All-America honors.
Nolan, a second-team All-American last year and a preseason first-team All-American this season, is a two-time first-team all-conference selection, and this year was named second-team All-America by womenslacrosse.com and a first-team all-region selection by the IWLCA. She led the conference in caused turnovers per game with a 1.56 average. A second-team All-America selection last year and a preseason first-team All-American this season, Nolan led the team with 48 ground balls (fifth in the league) and 28 caused turnovers, while scoring four goals and assisting on three others and winning 24 draw controls, which is third in the conference rankings.
The Crusaders finished the 2008 season with a 12-7 record overall and a 7-3 mark in Conference Carolinas, finishing second in the league standings after they were picked to finish fourth. The 12 wins are a school record, besting the previous mark by four which was set after the 2006 and 2007 seasons. The Abbey finished the season winning five of its last six games as it earned a spot in the Conference Carolinas Tournament final for the first time in the program's three-year history.
