Belmont Abbey College invites applications for adjuncts in Rhetoric and Writing, to begin Fall 2012. Applicants must have at least a Master’s degree in a related discipline and be able to teach in our newly developed, Rhetoric, Logic, Grammar, and Writing courses. Candidates whose professional experience, teaching and/or research interests are in the area of English, Rhetoric, and Composition will be considered, as well as instructors from related disciplines in the Humanities who are committed to teaching writing and speaking skills to first-year students. Rhetoric, Logic, Grammar, and Writing I and II focus on acquiring the communication skills (both verbal and oral) needed to be well educated; learning classical rhetorical approaches; mastering grammar and Standard English; developing critical thinking skills in practical contexts; and improving information literacy skills. Through assigned class readings, students willl earn to appreciate the best that has been written in the liberal arts tradition of the West as they also learn to connect those great ideas to the Catholic Intellectual Tradition.
